About the Location
Port Blair is the capital of the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and it is also the gateway to the beautiful chain of islands. It is located on the east coast of the South Andaman Island.
Port Blair is an Island town thats offers water sports activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, sea-cruises in addtion to the glimpses of the history and culture of the region. The Aberdeen Bazaar forms the centre of the town. Majority of the restaurants and hotels are around this area. The main bus station is just west of the bazaar and the Airport 4 Kms. to the south west. The main passenger dock for ferries-the Phoenix Bay Jetty is 1 Km. to the North West.

Location
Attractions at South Andaman:
1. North Bay :
North Bay is the most accesible place near Port Blair city for scuba diving, snorkeling and sea walk. Though North Bay is connected to South Andaman Island, the easy accessibility is through ferry from Marina Park. The ferry takes around 20 minutes.The lighthouse which is located on the island can be seen on Twenty Rupees Note. The place is most famous for the water sports activities. Coral Safari, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving and Sea Walking can be done here.
2. Ross Island :
Ross Island was previously the Capital of Andaman before Port Blair. Named after the British surveyor Sir Daniel Ross,is situated approximately 800 m away from the Aberdeen jetty. Settlers developed the area with so much vigor that soon it came to be known as Paris of the East, till it was invaded by the Japanese forces who built bunkers and drove the British away. One can see the ruined buildings .
3. Chidiya Tapu :
This beach is an awesome place for witnessing the sun set in a clear day, or just relax in this beach in the afternoon & come back after witnessing the sunset. This place is very good for photography. The sunsets on the hills giving a different kind of a view than the usual sunset on the beaches like over the horizon.
4. Jolly Buoy Island :
This is very small island which is a part of Gandhi National Marine Sanctuary, about an hours ferry from Wandoor jetty which takes us through amazing scenery. The ride to Jolly Buoy Island gives you a complimentary glass bottom boat ride. It is the best place to view amazing underwater beauty of creatures through glass bottom boat ride. You can view the underwater corals and variety of fishes through crystal clear water..But after watching one cant resist the view of Starfish, Oyesters, Sea Cucumber, Sea Anemones, Clown Fish(Nemo), and other corals. The water is crystal clear and it’s worth visiting this place for nature lovers.
5. Cellular Jail :
The Cellular Jail is a National memorial situated at the north-east corner of the Port Blair city. Shri Morarji Desai (Then Prime Minister of India) declared the Cellular Jail as a national memorial on 11th February 1979. The building is a testimony of the atrocities borne by the Indian revolutionaries.The jail was built as a 3 Storey building having seven wings connected with a central tower. The seven wings and the tower in middle was connected as in the shape of a star fish. The building contained a total of 698 cells. Presently only 3 out of 7 wings are remaining
6. Chatham Saw Mill :
Chatham Saw mill is situated in an island which joined to Port Blair by a bridge.It is the One of the Oldest Saw Mill in Asia. You can see the bombpit which was due to bomb thrown at Mill during IInd world war.
7. Viper Island :
After the Great Revolt in 1857, the British Government thought of establishing a penal settlement here. In March 1858, the first penal settlement was established when Suptd. J.B. Walker arrived with 200 prisoners, mostly rebels from the Indian Army (Sepoy Mutiny 1857). Initially the convicts were kept in a jail at Viper island, which is about 15 minutes boat ride from Port Blair. The island had a jail, gallows, Kutcheri, Doctor residence, etc.
8. Wandoor Beach :
Wandoor beach is a beautiful beach which the nature has crafted in an artistic way, you can enjoy the scenic beauty it offers Blue sky, white sand, crystal clear water, clean beach are the traits of beach located just 40 minutes drive from Port Blair.
9. Anthropological Museum :
This is a Place where you can know about the original inhabitants of these islands. The authorities have put up a splendid display of the life and culture of the various tribes along with well documented photographs, models and artifacts. One can watch out the models of Various Tribes of A & N Islands. There are model huts which show how they build their houses, their ornaments, tools, weapons, fishing and farming equipments are on display.
10. Red Skin Island :
Red Skin Island is a part of Mahatma Gandhi marine national park which includes several other islands too. The national park is set up to conserve the rich marine life in this sea and other islands. The glass bottom boat ride which showed the marine life in the sea. It was great to watch corals, sea cucumbers, fishes, snails and other molluscs underneath the waters.
11. Gandhi Park :
Gandhi Park is a green area within the busy city limits of Port Blair. It has a statue of Gandhiji and a Japanese temple. The greenery here attracts visitors to spend some quality time here.
12. Kalapani Museum :
Exhibits exploring the history of the Andaman & Nicobar islands through photos, paintings & models.
13. Science Centre :
Science Centre is located close to Corbyn s Cove beach. This place offers fun filled learning opportunities to the visitors. The exhibits on display explain some of the scientific facts in very interesting manner. Basically the Science centre offers knowledge in a very innovative manner.
14. Sippighat Farm :
Sippighat Farm is Govt. owned farm maintained by Department of Agriculture.
15. Carbyns Cove Beach :
Corbyn s Cove is a small beach with good view and sitting options near the water.
16. Mount Harriet :
Mount Harriet in South Andaman is the highest peak of South Andaman and is accessible by Road from Bambooflat.
Standard Itinerary for South Andaman

DAY 01: Arrival at Port Blair and transfer to respective hotel. Start with visit to Corbyns Cove Beach - 7 kms from Port Blair - a coconut palm fringed beach, ideal for swimming, sunbasking& bathing. Day 2: After breakfast, start off for a full- day excursion to North Bay to see coral reefs, exotic varieties of beautiful ornamental fish and other marine life. This is an ideal place for snorkeling nearby Port Blair. After North Bay, Visit Ross Island, the former residential and administrative island of the British during their rule of South East Asia, was nick named the Paris of the East. You could see the Deer walking by your side and the peacocks. Overnight stay at respective Hotel / Resort at Port Blair.
